கீழ்க்காணும் அரசியல் நையாண்டி என் அன்பிற்கும் மதிப்பிற்குமுரிய என் தந்தை அவர்களிடம் நான் கேட்டு மிகவும் வியந்த ஒன்றாகும். அதனை இவண் தங்களுடன் பகிர்ந்துக் கொள்ள விழைகிறேன்.
1967ஆம் ஆண்டுச் சட்டமன்றத் தேர்தல் சூடு பிடித்திருந்த நேரத்தில் ஒரு காங்கிரசுக் கட்சி ஆதரவு இதழில் பேரறிஞர் அண்ணா அவர்களின் கேலி ஓவியம்(Cartoon) ஒன்றினை வெளியிட்டிருந்தனர். அக்கேலி ஓவியத்தில் அண்ணா அவர்கள் கழுதையின் மீது ஏறிச் சென்று கோட்டையைக் கைப்பற்றுவதாக வரையப்பட்டிருந்தது.
இதனைப் பற்றி அண்ணாவின் கருத்து என்னவென்று அவரிடம் இதழியலாளர்கள்(Journalists) வினவியபோது, அண்ணா உடனே பின்வருமாறு பதிலளித்தார்:
"நான் இது நாள் வரை கோட்டையைக் கைப்பற்றுவது ஒரு கடினமானச் செயல் என்றே கருதியிருந்தேன். ஆனால், காங்கிரசு நண்பர்கள் அதெல்லாம் ஒன்றுமில்லை கழுதை மேல் ஏறிச் சென்றாலே போதும் எளிதில் கோட்டையைப் பிடித்து விடலாமென எனக்கு இக்கேலி ஓவியத்தின் மு°லம் தெரிவித்துவிட்டார்கள். அவர்களுக்கு என் நன்றி உரித்தாகுக!"

இதைப் படித்தவுடன் அன்று முழுவதும் இதைப் பற்றி தான் நினைத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தேன். எதையும் பாஸிட்டிவாக எடுத்துக் கொள்ளும் விதம் தான் எனக்குப் பிடித்திருந்தது.... இன்றைக்கு இதுபோல் ஒரு ஒரு விஷயம் நடந்திருந்தால் பேருந்துகள் கொழுத்தப்பட்டு பெரிய கலவரமே நடத்துவார்கள்.....

Thiru. CN Annadurai, was one of the finest sons India produced. He was a scholar and a gentleman and the Hamlet of Tamil Nadu politics. He is a role model for politicians in India. He exemplifies that one can come to power by being a decent politician. He had humility that disarmed his arch-enemies. The hallmark of scholarship is humility: what significance is all your learning if you do not worship at the lotus feet of the Lord? [Kural]. He was a proven example of the few men that power could not corrupt even a wee bit. Post '67 elections, the then IG, top post in police echelons, tendered his resignation, perhaps fearing political nemesis as he might have sided too much with the Congress Party in its heyday. Alien as he was to such petty animosity and bitter acrimony, Anna requested him to forget whatever happened during the earlier regime and to continue in office. He seems to have said, "We are ourselves new to the business of governance. If seasoned officers and bureaucrats like you quit, we would be rudderless. I would like you to guide us in the administration of the State. I assure you there will be no interference in your affairs.” Four decades after the untimely demise of this gentleman, we realise with hopeless despondency, politics has fallen into a fathomless cesspool of self-centredness, selfishness and vindictiveness. God was unkind to us-in gathering his life. He should have lived long enough to shape the model democracy for us to follow.
